India, officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. India is also called Bharat, Hindustan, or Aryavart. It is the seventh-largest country by area and the most populous country with more than 1.4 billion people.

Geography

India is bounded by the Indian Ocean in the south, the Arabian Sea in the west, the Bay of Bengal in the east, and the Himalayas in the north. It has a coastline of about 7500 miles (12400 kilometers) and borders Pakistan to its west, Bhutan, China, and Nepal to its northeast, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to its east. The country is home to a diverse landscape, including the Himalayan Mountains in the north, the Thar Desert in the west, and the lush Ganges-Brahmaputra delta in the east. It also has a diverse range of flora and fauna, including tigers, elephants, rhinoceroses, and a wide variety of other animals.

Politics

India is a federal democratic republic with a parliamentary system in which the President serves as head of state and the Prime Minister as head of government. It has been politically divided into 29 States and 8 union territories with its capital New Delhi. These states and territories are further subdivided into districts and further into smaller administrative divisions.

India is the land of many freedom fighters. Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Subash Chandra Bose, and Bhagat Singh have been inscribed in golden letters in the history of India. They were remembered for their contribution to independence against British rule.

Culture

India is renowned for its diversity of cultures, languages, and religions. It has a rich heritage of art, literature, music, dance, architecture, and cuisine, influenced by various civilizations and traditions that have shaped its history. There are 22 official languages in India, but hundreds more are spoken by different groups of people. The most widely spoken language is Hindi, followed by English and other regional languages.

India has no official religion, but the majority of the population follows Hinduism, which is also the oldest religion in the country. Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, and Sikhism are major religions. Many of the country's festivals and cultural practices are associated with Hinduism. Diwali, Vijayadashami, Eid-ul-Fitr, Christmas, and Holi, are some major festivals celebrated in India.

Economic

India is one of the world's fastest-growing economies, known for its service and manufacturing sectors. The country has a large middle class and is home to many multinational companies. Agriculture is also an important sector of the economy, with India being one of the largest producers of wheat, rice, and other crops.
